Trenčín is near the Czech border around 120 kilometers from Bratislava. One of the nicest places to visit is the medieval Trenčín Castle that has a great view of the entire city. The castle also has a rock with a 179 AD Roman inscription.

Getting there: STA bus direct (5 hours; 360 CZK one way).

This city in northwest Austria, south of Prague, is often referred to as Austria’s Forgotten City. It is the second largest shopping city after Vienna and home to many art exhibitions. Next to the castle, the Franz-Josef Warte offers an amazing view and one of the highest points in the city.

Náchod is a city to the northeast of Prague on the border with Poland. It’s relatively small but has a beautiful castle with bears in the moat and is surrounded by a forest, full of old military bunkers, that is great for hiking. Náchod is known for Primátor beer, while Kudowa Zdrόj the Polish town just across the border is known for its spas and mineral springs.

Getting there: Hlavní Nádraží-Strakoč-Náchod (3 hrs; 222 CZK one way, 25 CZK for bus to Kudowa Zdrόj).
