50 Music Videos Shot in Prague

You may be familiar with many of the Hollywood movies shot in Prague, and you may know of a few of the music videos that artists like Kanye West, Rihanna, or INXS have filmed here. But did you know just how many music videos have been shot in Prague? Well, here are 50 of ‘em from major international artists. (Note: only foreign musicians are included.)

AFI – Silver And Cold

Director John Hillcoat (The Proposition) shot this video for the alternative rock band throughout various Prague locations back in 2004, which includes a lot of the familiar tourist landmarks.

Anastacia – What Can We Do (Deeper Love)

Boyzone – Every Day I Love You

Blue – Breathe Easy

The English R&B boy band shot the video for their hit single at a variety of Prague locations, including Hlavní nádraží and the Hlubočepy viaduct. See this lovely VH1 behind-the-scenes video for more details.

Blur – To the End

This video from the britpop band, based on Alain Resnais’ classic French New Wave film Last Year at Marienbad, was filmed in Prague in 1994 by director David Mould; locations include the National Museum in Prague (watch for that staircase) and Zámecká zahrada in Libochovice (garden exteriors).

Céline Dion – It’s All Coming Back To Me Now

Danny Fernandes – Never Again

Dina Carroll – Don’t Be a Stranger

One of the British singer’s greatest hits, the video for Don’t Be a Stranger features a number of Prague landmarks including Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, the Astronomical Clock, Hlavní nádraží, and much more.

The charismatic Italian pop singer-songwriter (best known for her hit Bello e impossibile) recorded this video throughout some empty Malá Strana streets and courtyards.

But INXS didn’t just shoot Never Tear Us Apart in Prague: the Australian rockers also filmed Guns in the Sky here on a single set: a nondescript hallway in Obecní dům…

INXS – New Sensation

…and that wasn’t all: you’ll probably recognize more of Obecní dům in this clip for New Sensation. 

Jason Mraz & Colbie Caillat – Lucky

Prague’s Old Town Square looks striking in this video for Lucky, which is carefully edited to make it seem like Jason Mraz is there alone (yeah, right); scenes with Colbie Caillat were filmed in Hawaii. 

Kanye West & Jay-Z – No Church In the Wild

Along with INXS and Rihanna, rapper Kanye West is one of the artists most-identified with shooting in Prague; this striking video for No Church in the Wild, directed by Romain Gavras, was purportedly a response to the Occupy Wall Street movement. But these images of violent protests through Prague streets seem similar to a Linkin Park clip below. 

Kanye West – Diamonds From Sierra Leone

Prague represents European opulence (hah!) in West’s Diamonds of the Sierra Leone, which contrasts African children toiling away in diamond mines with the singer crooning down Charles Bridge and Old Town Square. 

Kanye West – Runaway

And then there’s the opulent Runaway, a 35-minute music video-cum-art film (also available in a 5-minute version), which was primarily shot on a nondescript stage somewhere in Prague.

Kelly Family – She is Crazy

The popular European folk rock band shot this… interesting video in Prague and Capri in 1995. Here’s a fitting making of vid that features some of the Prague locations.

Killing Joke – Hosannas From The Basements Of Hell

The influential post-punk/industrial rock band filmed this video for the title track on their thirteenth album in a dark basement at Studio Faust Records. 

Lasgo – Something

Let Loose – Best in Me

The British pop/rock band filmed this video for their hit single throughout some familiar Malá Strana locations. Click here for a behind-the-scenes video.

Linkin Park – From the Inside

And this one – which might have influenced Kanye West’s No Church in the Wild eight years later – was shot throughout Prague streets as the band plays amidst violent protests.  

Lordi – The Riff

Machine Head – Darkness Within

Shot on Charles Bridge along with some… darker areas of Prague, this video for the US heavy metal band contrasts Prague’s beauty with drug use. Guitarist Rob Flynn on Prague: “And yet, it had a dark underbelly to it that ran through her streets. Heroin use was open and rampant back then, and having dabbled in that, and having had friends who did more than dabble, I was all too aware of it. But there was something about that that charmed me. That there could be that dark side within such a beautiful, religious place.” 

Mandy Moore – Have A Little Faith In Me

This video for the US pop star was shot in Prague back in 2003 (Moore was also in the country shooting the film Chasing Liberty at the time). Locations include Hlavní nádraží and the streets of Old Town, which are (quite beautifully) transformed into paper cutouts.

Muse – New Born

Director David Slade (30 Days of Night, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) on making this Muse vid: “The budget was as tight as a nun’s chuff and we ended up going to Prague to shoot most of the video.” Suffice it to say that Prague landmarks don’t make an appearance.

Ozzy Osbourne – Back On Earth

Ozzy filmed this terrific silent movie-themed video outside of the Czech capital in 1996-7. Parts of Ozzy’s I Just Want You, from the same album, were also filmed in Prague.

Primal Scream – Jailbird

The Prodigy – Baby’s Got A Temper

This circus-themed video for The Prodigy was directed by Traktor and shot in Kladno; try to spot the Poldi Kladno factory in the background.

R.E.M. – E-Bow The Letter

Rihanna – Don’t Stop the Music

Rihanna – Shut Up And Drive

Like Don’t Stop the Music, this video – filmed in a makeshift junkyard – doesn’t include many identifiable aspects of Prague. Rihanna filmed both videos in the capital for a total of $600,000.
