Prague has seen a handful of summer food and culture spaces come to life in recent months, many of them offering open-air food, drink, and entertainment options for those who prefer to continue social distancing.

The Molo “gastro and cultural” pop-up tent joins their ranks today in the gardens of Občanská plovárna, the city’s oldest river spa.

The bistro-bar helmed by chef Jan Mužátek Jr. will also offer live music and a relaxation area with Vltava views.

Molo (which means “pier” in Czech) will be open every week from Wednesday to Saturday from 17:00 to 23:00, though opening hours will eventually be extended.

Mužátko a graduate of the Paul Bocuse Institute in Lyon, says of the menu, “We are on the banks of the Vltava, so there will definitely be fish specialties such as trout fries with dill mayonnaise.”

Pivovar Národní, a brewery housed in the 17th-century Voršilský monastery in nearby Národní třída, will supply the beer.

“Prague already has several open-air bars with an entertainment program. By opening the Pier, we hope to contribute to the diversity of the gastro and cultural scene and we believe that we will move it a little further again,” says Petr Utěkal, head of marketing for the Colosseum Restaurants network, which is behind the Molo concept.

He adds that he considers prices to be budget-friendly.

Molo is planning concerts, DJs evenings, as well as theater and stand-up performances. In addition, loungers, picnic blankets, and hammocks will gradually be added to the site. “We open before the summer, but we want the pier to be open until the first snow,” says Utěkal.

In the spirit of casual cuisine with a gourmet touch,  a special hot dog is on the menu for the opening.

“We are preparing a New York-style hotdog with shredded beef, chicken wings with Asian sauce, and Mexican butter corn with liquid cheddar and Jalapeños for the opening,” he says.

A couple of weeks ago Občanská plovárna launched a new Saturday market. The former swimming pool has seen revitalization efforts in recent years.
