🍿 Keep the Oscar magic alive

You can see Oscar-nominated films, including at Edison Film Hub early this week, including A Real Pain (Kieran Culkin won for Best Actor at Sunday's ceremony) on Monday. The Brutalist, Anora, A Complete Unknown and other winners and nominees are also screening at Světozor and Aero. Film enthusiasts can also look forward to Shockproof Film Festival (March 3) and FAMU film festival (March 5) this week.

❗Plan around transport disruptions

Due to the reconstruction of a water supply system in the NĂĄměstĂ MĂru area, the NĂĄměstĂ MĂru stop for line number 135 will be temporarily relocated from Monday, March 3 (from the start of daily operation) until further notice—around late May, authorities say. Check the official site of the Prague Public Transit Company for more information.

🥞 Make pancakes, make merry

Celebrations for Masopust, the traditional Czech festival celebrating the end of winter, will be held in early March, in line with Shrove Tuesday on March 4, also known as International Pancake Day, and Ash Wednesday the day after. Do you know your Czech pancake recipes? LĂvance is a yeasted pancake, palačinka is a crepe and there's also bramborĂĄk, a potato pancake. See our recipes here.

☀️ Get out your sunscreen

Summer may be a ways off but according to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute it's time to break out the sunscreen. A sharp drop in ozone levels over Czechia is forecast for March 4-5, reaching 30 percent below average. The UV index may hit 3.5, posing higher risks in mountainous areas. Experts advise limiting sun exposure, wearing protective clothing, and using sunscreen. The weakened ozone layer allows more harmful UV radiation, which can cause sunburn and skin damage.

♀️ International women's day

International Women’s Day, celebrated globally on March 8 (Saturday), initially honored working women in socialist and communist nations. It is now universally observed to acknowledge progress and, in some places, protest existing gender inequality. Several events will take place across Prague, including a walking tour. You can also stay in: the acclaimed documentary I’m Not Everything I Want to Be (JeĹĄtě nejsem, kĂ˝m chci bĂ˝t), a snapshot of trailblazing Czech photographer LibuĹĄe JarcovjĂĄkovĂĄ, is now on Netflix.
