A newly opened bistro on Prague’s Maltese Square in the Malá Strana quarter offers all-day brunch starting at 7:30 am, a focus on farm-fresh Czech ingredients, and a side dish of history: the restaurant is located in a historic building which formerly housed the oldest Prague post office.

The Mail Room Bistro at Maltézské náměstí 8 is located in a building dating back to the 14th century which later became the first Royal Post Office for Prague in 1622.

Opening a few months ago as a part of the newly renovated Old Royal Post Residence, the owners have maintained the original spirit of the space with a motif featuring brown paper parcels and Czech stamp-themed wallpaper.

The management says it hopes to appeal to regular visitors, not just tourists, by offering discounts for returning customers as well as entertainment – the bistro already hosts a Saturday jazz brunch and hopes to continue scheduling live music.

A menu of brunch classics such as Eggs Benedict paired with zingy cocktails including a special Gosling’s rum and ginger beer drink is sure to keep those hungry for new breakfast and weekend brunch options coming back.
