You've heard about Farming Simulator, Truck Simulator, and maybe even Goat Simulator. But what about a Prague metro simulator?

The Czech capital's underground is set to become the backdrop for a unique video game with the upcoming release of Back in Service, billed as a Prague metro driver experience and created by just a single designer, Dominik Vojta.

The project, which began as a personal fascination with Prague's subway system, has gained significant traction, far surpassing its initial crowdfunding goal in just one week. To date, it has raised nearly CZK 400,000 on the Czech platform Startovač. An early access version of the game is currently available to backers.

"I've been fascinated by the metro since childhood," Vojta, a graphic designer by profession who has dedicated his free time to crafting an authentic portrayal of Prague's metro network, tells CzechCrunch in a recent interview.

"The Berlin and London subway systems already have high-quality video game versions, but one has never really been created for Prague. So I decided to make a game about the Prague metro."

The success of the crowdfunding campaign on Startovač, where Vojta sought financial support after more than a year of work, reflects widespread enthusiasm for the project from local fans. The game has far surpassed its original goal of CZK 74,000, and with 47 days remaining in the campaign, seems poised to raise at least half a million.

"I certainly did not expect such success. The original amount was supposed to at least partially compensate for the time I spent working on the game instead of commercial orders," he tells CzechCrunch. "Thanks to the funding, the development will get a huge boost. I can completely stop my other commercial projects and devote myself fully to this game."

According to the official description for Back in Service, the game offers players the opportunity to explore detailed stations and navigate challenges from the perspective of a metro driver. While realism is a priority, the game also promises elements of adventure and exploration.

The game's development is primarily a solo endeavor for Vojta, who has taken on the roles of designer, programmer, and project manager. However, he acknowledges the invaluable contributions of other subway enthusiasts who have shared their knowledge of the system.

"Now my priority is to finish line A. I don't have concrete plans yet, but I would like to have some final version ready within a year," says Vojta, adding that the additional funding will allow him to expand his initial scope for future release on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

As the project continues to gain momentum, anticipation builds for an adventure that transports players to the heart of Prague's underground. More details about the game can be found on its official website.
