After a soft opening in late June, Crazy Daisy Bar—located in the historic Palac Astra at the corner of Wenceslas and Jungmannovo squares—is open for business.

In a nod to the space’s First Republic roots (during the ’20s it housed the legendary Carioca wine bar) the interior design is a mix of the vintage cabaret glamor and modern glitz that one has come to expect from the establishments lining Prague’s flashiest square.

An electro-swing soundtrack and regular video mapping projections add to the modern dance-hall effect.

But it is the signature cocktails, seemingly conjured not from the laws of mixology but alchemy, that are sure to entice.

Named for Prague legends and landmarks, drinks like Čertovka (a Lillet ice cream drink with homemade pumpkin-choco puree and bacon), Golem (Beefeater gin, Aperol, pomegranate and basil juice), and Charles Bridge (Czech Gold Cock whisky, with ginger and Tabasco) may sound like tourist gimmick but are made with care.

Beer cocktails are another unusual menu item, and all are served by staffers sporting red uniforms that are a mix of ringmaster and bellhop.

In a curious twist, the concept for the bar was created by a two-time world champion in the non-alcoholic cocktails circuit, Czech bartender Achim Šipl.

Downtown Prague is poised to see a bit of a nightlife renaissance. It was recently announced that Slovak developers the Medusa Group would be building a new club on Revoluční while news that a branch of the W Hotel would open in 2020 in the former Grand Hotel Evropa and more dining options are attracting locals who once considered the area the realm of tourists and stag parties.
