Confirmed Czech coronavirus cases hits 5,335 after daily rise of 295

Prague, April 9 (CTK) – The number of COVID-19 patients’ deaths increased by 11 to 104 in the Czech Republic on Wednesday and overnight, and the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases has reached 5,335 this morning, according to the Health Ministry’s updated information.

On Wednesday, the record high number of 8,164 samples were tested in the country, beating the previous record from Tuesday by 730.

The overall number of tests thus exceeded 100,000 and stood at 106,845 this morning.

A total of 243 patients have recovered, ten of them since Wednesday evening.

A total of 295 new coronavirus cases were confirmed by tests on Wednesday, 100 more than on Tuesday and 60 more than on Monday. Last week, the average daily number of newly confirmed cases was 253.

Out of the country’s 14 regions, the highest number of COVID-19 cases is still in Prague, where there are 96 patients per 100,000 inhabitants. Prague also has the highest absolute number of patients, 1,306, which is about one-quarter of all patients in the Czech Republic.

The second most-afflicted region is central Moravian Olomouc, with 78 coronavirus cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

A total of 104 people with coronavirus have died in Czechia so far. A total of 440 COVID-19 patients stayed in hospitals on Wednesday morning, including 96 severely ill.

Almost one third of hospitalised patients have either recovered or have been released to home care.
