The number of novel coronavirus cases in the Czech Republic rose by 59 to 7,504 on Tuesday, the seventh day with less than 100 new cases

Prague, April 29 (CTK) – The number of the novel coronavirus cases in the Czech Republic rose by 59 to 7,504 on Tuesday, the seventh day with less than 100 new cases, with the number of infected in the country now at 4,317, according to Health Ministry data published on its website at 8:30 today.

Since the beginning of March, 2,960 patients recovered (18 more since Tuesday evening) and 227 died.

Compared to Tuesday, the number of the recovered rose by six and the number of fatalities by two. There are 361 patients hospitalised with COVID-19 and 71 of them in a critical condition.

On Tuesday, 8,665 tests were performed in the country, with the share of positive results at 0.68 percent. In total, 235,000 coronavirus tests have been performed in the country, including repeated ones in one person.

The largest daily increase in the number of the infected was detected on April 3, with 332 new cases.

The disease is most widespread in Prague, which reports 1,702 infected, an infection rate of 125 per 100,000 inhabitants.

The second region with the most cases per population is the Karlovy Vary Region with 356 cases and an infection rate of 121 per 100,000 inhabitants.

The lowest infection rate, 27 infected per 100,000 inhabitants, is reported in South Bohemia.

The most coronavirus-related deaths also happened in Prague, with healthcare workers reporting 82 victims. The region with the second highest number of deaths is Moravia-Silesia with 28, followed by Karlovy Vary with 22 fatalities.

Only one person infected with COVID-19 died in the Zlin Region.

Since the data on the country’s fight against the novel coronavirus seem to be promising, the government is gradually easing the unprecedented restrictions it imposed on public life and business on March 12.

On Tuesday, the Chamber of Deputies voted on prolonging the state of emergency in the country until May 17, even though the government wanted for prolong it until May 25.

Even after the state of emergency is lifted, many measures will remain in place, for example the mandatory wearing of face masks or the ban on large public gatherings.
