Crafting Café and Birthday House Bistro Open In Holešovice

But the opportunity to simply drop into a venue when the inspiration to whip up a floral arrangement or table centerpiece strikes—something like Craft Studio NYC or Tea and Crafting in London—hasn’t previously existed in Prague.

Creative World is filling that gap by offering both serious crafters and dabblers a space to dine, drink, and design original jewelry, decorative items, toys, and more.

“We work with a lot of the traditional Czech suppliers so that you’re starting with only the best materials,” says Linda Antony who together with her sister Helena Neumannova has transformed a former kitchen showroom off Holešovice’s Ortenovo náměstí into a multi-purpose venue that is the first of its kind in the Czech Republic.

Some of those materials include a wide assortment of delicate glass beads from Jablonec nad Nisou, a city near Liberec that is considered a bead collector’s paradise, as well as wooden components from Detoa a toy maker based in a small village near the Jizera Mountains.

The roomy basement crafting area is comprised of workbenches and wall-to-wall shelves of supplies—glue guns, paints, and all manner of tools are provided; a water table and a myriad of activities for children as well as a kid’s corner are also tucked into the premises.

Beyond providing a space for groups or individuals to settle in for some crafting fun, complete with an in-house instructor, the duo is introducing Czech culture to another concept: the birthday theme party. Antony admits it has been a bit of a tough sell.

The ground floor Birthday House (Narozeninový dům) features a number of themed seating areas (retro disco, Alice in Wonderland, silent film era) meant for hosting parties and is decked out with props and racks of costumes for kids and grown-ups alike.

Drop-ins are welcome for lunch, wine, coffee or to browse handmade gifts and lavender and ayurvedic products from the in-house shop.

“We are focused on Christmas at this stage and our workshop is open daily to everyone,” says Ms. Antony, who adds that Creative World staff can help coordinate a crafting event for groups. There is an entry fee of 150 CZK to enter the crafting area (unless previous arrangements have been made for a group in advance); supplies are reasonably priced.
