Where are the world’s most satisfied drivers?

If you’ve some spent time on Czech roads, you may not be so pleased with the amount of traffic, the condition of many roads, and the high level of accidents that ranks the country’s roads among Europe’s deadliest.

But that didn’t stop drivers in the Czech Republic from rating their experience on local roads higher than those in most other countries.

Popular driving app Waze, which charts traffic and navigation routes for millions of users in countries across the world, recently released their Driver Satisfaction Index 2016, which combines satisfaction scores from a number of factors into an overall rating of 10 (satisfying) to 1 (miserable).

The factors used in the Index include ratings for traffic, road safety, road quality, driver services (car services, gas stations, and parking lots), socio economic (gas prices and access to cars), and a Wazeyness score that measured a Mood Score and “Thumbs Up” ratings from app users.

For data accuracy, the Index only measured the 38 countries in which the app has over 20,000 monthly active users.

And out of those 38 countries, the Czech Republic came in at number 4, trailing only the Netherlands, France, and the United States.

Here’s the top 10 by overall score:

  • 1.       Netherlands (7.54)
  • 2.       France (7.42)
  • 3.       United States (7.22)
  • 4.       Czech Republic (6.91)
  • 5.       Sweden (6.88)
  • 6.       United Arab Emirates (6.85)
  • 7.       Latvia (6.57)
  • 8.       Hungary (6.56)
  • 9.       Slovakia (6.46)
  • 10.   Italy (6.44)

While the Czech Republic didn’t rate particularly high in any single area, solid rankings in each category vaulted the country into the top five.

The Index measured not only data by country, but also the 186 cities with enough active users to provide accurate data. Brno came in at number 52 in the city Index, while Prague trailed slightly behind at 66.

Least satisfied drivers? Motorists in El Salvador, Philippines, Guatemala, Panama, and Indonesia rounded out the bottom of the list.
