Czech government will not revoke Kosovo's recognition, says Prime Minister Andrej Babiš

Prague, Sept 12 (CTK) – Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) sees no reason for the Czech government to change its recognition of Kosovo, as demanded by President Miloš Zeman, Babiš said today after his talks with the PMs of the Visegrad Four countries (the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland).

However, senior elected officials will certainly discuss the Kosovo issue, Babiš said.

During his visit to Serbia, which he ended today, Zeman said he wanted to discuss the revocation of the Czech Republic’s recognition of Kosovo’s independence with other senior elected officials.

“Zeman has the same view of Kosovo, making this statement each year since 2013. This is nothing new,” Babiš said.

“For the government’s position, the foreign policy of the Czech Republic is naturally decisive,” he added.

“We have regular meetings at which foreign trips and policy are coordinated. We will certainly discuss it, but I see no reason for the government to change its position,” Babiš said.

Zeman said about Kosovo that the state headed by war criminals should not be part of a community of democratic states.

Right after his arrival in Belgrade, Zeman told his Serb counterpart Aleksandar Vucic he liked Serbia, but not Kosovo.

Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008. Most countries, including the Czech Republic, but not states such as Slovakia, Spain, Russia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Greece, have recognised Kosovo’s independence from Serbia.
