The world’s leading news channel will soon launch a Czech-language version in cooperation with local broadcaster Prima, company officials revealed earlier today.
CNN Prima News will become the ninth channel in the Czech Republic owned by Prima Group, the country’s third-largest broadcaster behind Czech Television and TV Nova.
According to a Prima press release, CNN Prima News is expected to launch within the next twelve months. The channel will broadcast news and other programming continually 24 hours a day.
The channel will feature both local news produced by Prima in association with CNN, and foreign news pieces produced by CNN and dubbed into the Czech language.
“We are delighted to be working with the Prima Group to bring a quality local version of CNN journalism to audiences in the Czech Republic,” said Roland Nikolaou, Senior Director, Content Sales and Licensing, CNN International Commercial.
“By combining CNN’s international expertise, reach and content with Prima’s deep knowledge of the Czech environment and local issues, we will create attractive program content that will deliver a unique mix of national and international news,”
A “reputable journalist from CNN headquarters”, yet to be named, will be among the board members of CNN Prima News in Prague.
“With the start of the broadcasting of CNN Prima News, a new era of dynamic and objective TV news in the Czech Republic will begin, which is unprecedented up to this point, and audiences should definitely look forward to it,” Prima Group CEO Marek Singer stated.
“One of the most modern studios and editorial boards for broadcasting in Europe is currently being built in the new headquarters in Prague. In addition to news, we will also be offering a wide range of topical programs. We will also be launching a special digital platform with unique content.”
Prima Group is expected to move into its new Prague headquarters in December 2019.
CNN Prima News is the latest foreign brand of CNN to launch following CNN Greece, CNN News-18 (India), CNN Turkey, CNN Indonesia, CNN Philippines, and CNN Money Switzerland, among others.
