Doksy, North Bohemia/Prague, Aug 23 (CTK) – Czech police and customs officers found narcotics on 59 people during checks at the open air music festival Mácháč, police spokeswoman Ivana Baláková said on the website of the regional police today.
The festival ended Sunday morning, but the checks continued afterwards, Baláková said.
“During [Sunday], we will primarily check whether drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol leaving the festival appear on the roads in the region,” she added.
Due to this, the police stepped up the checks of the road traffic both in the town of Doksy and the roads leading out of it.
The Mácháč festival was held on the beach Klůček near the Máchovo jezero Lake since Friday afternoon.
The police measures taken at the festival are the most extensive from the regular cultural events staged in the Liberec Region each year.
Police and customs officers found ecstasy, pervitin (methamphetamine), marijuana, hashish, LSD and cocaine on 59 people.
In four cases, this was qualified as the crime of keeping narcotics or a poison.
“Four people will not avoid criminal prosecution due to the possession of the drugs,” Baláková said.
The mixed patrols seized cocaine and ecstasy from a woman from Prague, 29. Given the amount of the drug she had with herself, she may be sentenced to up to one year in prison.
However, another three offenders may receive stiffer punishment. Patrols found 13 tablets of ecstasy on a man, 19; four tablets of ecstasy and almost one gram of cocaine on a man, 37; and over 11 grams of marijuana on a girl, 18.
“The court can give them up to a two-year prison sentence. We will start prosecution of all the four after we receive results from the laboratory tests of the seized drugs,” Baláková said.
