The opening hours at more than 250 post offices across Czech Republic will change in the next two months, according to a report in ČTK.

In September, 265 branches will adjust their opening hours, and come October, half of the branches, about 1,500 branches, will also adjust their opening hours. The move is a response to the coronavirus pandemic, reports ČTK.

Post offices will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. At the moment, post office hours across the country are inconsistent, and oftentimes, branches will have their own opening hours. The Czech Post has 3,200 branches across the country and employs more than 29,000 people.

Czech Post officials hope this one-shift change will make it easier to manage shipping around Christmastime and other operational issues.

“The main principle of the change is to replace the so-called two-shift operation with a single shift,” spokesman Matyáš Vitík said.

“In practice, instead of two workers taking turns at one counter, one worker will operate a counter on Mondays and Wednesday until 6:00 pm and on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. until the closure of a specific branch.”

“Ultimately, this will allow more counters to be filled, which have often remained unoccupied.”

Single-counter post offices in rural areas will not see any changes, and neither will post offices will non-stop operation. The opening hours of post offices in shopping centers won’t change, either.
