Czech Republic adds 163 confirmed coronavirus cases Friday for total of 5,735; 123 deaths, 370 recoveries

Prague, April 11 (CTK) – The Czech Republic has 5,735 confirmed coronavirus cases; 123 patients with COVID-19 have died in hospitals and 370 have recovered so far, according to the updated data from the Health Ministry’s website.

The coronavirus-related death toll has risen by four since Friday evening. The number of the recovered has risen by 24.

Laboratories in Czechia have performed 120,285 coronavirus tests.

The number of the confirmed cases increased by 163 on Friday, which was the lowest daily rise this week, but labs also made this week’s so far lowest number of tests on Friday, 5,431. Another three coronavirus cases have been reported since midnight.

Almost 3 percent of the samples tested positive for the coronavirus during the coronavirus tests.

Six people with COVID-19 died in the country on Friday, two in Prague, while the Moravia-Silesia, South Moravia, South Bohemia and Usti regions had one fatality each. One person died in the Pardubice Region in small hours today. Two of the Friday victims were under 50.

This week’s highest number of the new COVID-19 cases was on Wednesday, 295, when the record number of 8,164 tests were performed as well. On Thursday, 257 new cases were registered.

The highest coronavirus incidence is still in Prague, some 102 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The capital has also the highest overall number of the confirmed cases, 1,392, a quarter of all cases. It is followed by the Olomouc Region with 89 infected per 100,000 inhabitants.

This morning, 436 COVID-19 patients stayed in Czech hospitals, including 92 with a severe course of the illness. A total of 279 of the hospitalised patients have recovered or have been released to home quarantine so far.

The first COVID-19 cases were reported in the Czech Republic on March 1. The number of the confirmed cases exceeded 3,300 at the end of March.

Last week, the Institute of Health Information and Statistics (UZIS) released its statistical prognosis, saying Czechia would have some 8,000 confirmed coronavirus cases in mid-April and around 14,200 at the end of the month.
