Czech Republic remains one of the top countries for fighting human trafficking, according to the annual Trafficking in Persons Report 2020 (TIP REPORT).

The report, published annually by the United States, ranks countries according to their efforts to fight human trafficking in their countries.

Czech Republic ranks in TIER 1, the best rating for countries fighting human trafficking. It means the country complies with the minimum standards to fight the crime.

Last year, the country received an award for the highest number of investigated and prosecuted offenders; for the imposition of unconditional imprisonment; and for giving victims of human trafficking comprehensive care.

The annual report also details recommendations to help fight human trafficking more effectively. For example, to better identify victims at risk and provide care for these victims, as well as to thoroughly prosecute offenders. Labor inspectors, police officers and others should be trained to identify victims of human trafficking.

The TIP REPORT also mentions Czech Republic’s National Strategy for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings for 2020 to 2023. The strategy was approved on May 4, 2020 and includes a number of strategies the country is already implementing, including educating those who may come into contact with victims of trafficking, improving the collection of relevant data and more.
