The Czech Republic recorded 73 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, according to the latest figures from the Czech Health Ministry published this morning.

A total of 3,698 coronavirus tests were conducted in the Czech Republic Wednesday, for a ratio of positive results to tests conducted of 1.97%.

Wednesday’s numbers fall in line with statistics since this weekend, after the Czech Republic reported 61 new cases on Sunday, 69 on Monday, and 54 on Tuesday.

The daily rise in COVID-19 cases, and the ratio of positive results to tests conducted, have both been slightly higher this week compared to the two weeks prior. But the rise isn’t setting off alarm bells, and the numbers are significantly and consistently lower than those reported during the height of the coronavirus in the Czech Republic in late March and early April.

The Czech Republic has reported 13 new COVID-19 recoveries so far for Wednesday, after 15 on Tuesday and 32 on Monday; these numbers are typically updated retroactively after a few days.

The total number of COVID-19 recoveries in the Czech Republic now stands at 7,124, and represents nearly 75% of the total number of cases.

There was one new COVID-19-related death reported in the Czech Republic on Wednesday, bringing the total to 328.

There are currently 2,374 known active COVID-19 cases in the Czech Republic, 111 of which are currently hospitalized.

As residents of the Czech Republic look forward to summer travel, more countries have announced that they will be re-opening borders to their European neighbors.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stated yesterday that the country will be re-opening its borders with its neighbors, including the Czech Republic, from June 13 – this Saturday. It is unclear whether free travel between the two countries will be allowed from this date, but more information from the Czech side should be revealed in the coming days.

Germany, meanwhile, has announced that they will abandon border checks from June 15; as the Czech Republic has already lifted restrictions on their side for travel between the countries, free travel should commence between Germany and the Czech Republic as of next week.

Travel between the Czech Republic and Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary is already (generally) possible without restrictions including the need to produce a negative COVID-19 test.
