Czech Republic reports 89 new coronavirus cases on Easter Sunday, total of 5,991

Prague, April 13 (CTK) – The Czech Republic has 5,991 confirmed coronavirus cases, 89 new ones from Sunday, which is the lowest figure since March 17 (67); 139 COVID-19 patients have died and 467 recovered so far, according to the data from the Health Ministry’s website released this morning.

However, the number of tests is also lower during the weekend. On Sunday, only 3,233 tests were performed, the lowest number since end-March.

Laboratories in Czechia have performed 128,359 coronavirus tests to date.

Last week’s record number of tests was on Wednesday, 8,164 with 295 confirmed cases. The number of tests started falling then to over 5,000 on Good Friday and some 4,800 on Holy Saturday.

One patient has died since Sunday evening and three more have recovered.

According to the permanent residence, the highest coronavirus incidence is still in Prague, 1,435, roughly one-quarter of all infected, followed by Central Bohemia with 721 cases and Moravia-Silesia with 674. The lowest incidence is in South Bohemia, 153.

Prague has also the highest number of COVID-19 patients per population, with some 105 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The lowest figure is in South Bohemia, 24 infected per 100,000 inhabitants.

On Sunday, 436 COVID-19 patients stayed in Czech hospitals, including some 100 with a severe course of the illness demanding intensive care. About 300 of the hospitalised patients have recovered or have been released to home quarantine so far.

The first COVID-19 infection cases were reported in the Czech Republic on March 1. Their number exceeded 3,300 at the end of March.
