Czech Republic reports lowest daily rise in new COVID-19 cases in eight weeks

Prague, May 3 (CTK) – Only 18 new COVID-19 cases appeared in the Czech Republic on Saturday, the lowest daily rise since March 9; this was likely influenced by the low number of tests, 3,862, while the daily average has been 6,515, according to the data from the Czech Health Ministry released this morning.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, a total of 257,678 tests have been conducted. They confirmed coronavirus in 7,755 people.

So far, 3,471 Czechs have recovered from COVID-19, while 245 have died.

The highest number of daily tests in the Czech Republic, 8,745, were conducted this Tuesday. Over the next days, that number never dipped under 7,200. A major change occurred on Friday, the May 1 holiday, when the number of tests performed fell to 4,172.

The highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases this week, 103, were reported on Thursday. On Friday, the growth slowed down to 55. On Saturday, there were a mere 18 confirmed cases, the smallest number since March 9.

Prague has the highest number of confirmed coronavirus cases across all regions in the Czech Republic at 1,751. This equates to 128 cases per 100,000 population.

Prague is followed by the Karlovy Vary Region with 127 per 100,000 population.

Prague also has the highest number of coronavirus-related deaths at 84.
