The Czech Republic will give 25 million crowns to other countries to fight coronavirus

Prague, April 9 (CTK) – The Czech Republic will donate 25 million crowns to the countries hit by the coronavirus pandemic, with the money to go from the Foreign Ministry budget for humanitarian aid, Foreign Minister Tomas Petricek (Social Democrats, CSSD) tweeted today.

The money will be predominantly given to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and Cambodia, Petricek said about the government decision.

The money is to be spent on the projects dealing with immediate impact of the coronavirus, to provide health care and support sanitary measures and nutrition.

Out of the sum, ten million are for the five countries in which local health capacities should be enhanced by means of deliveries of health equipment from Czech companies.

The remaining 15 million crowns will be distributed through gifts bound to direct deliveries of equipment to selected health facilities. Czech diplomatic offices abroad will select the concrete healthcare facilities.

The provided humanitarian aid is part of the joint efforts of the EU in support of the partnership countries hit by the coronavirus.

On Wednesday, EU foreign ministers decided to move over 20 billion euros as development aid to fight coronavirus and its impact in vulnerable countries.
