Czech Republic will not tighten anti-coronavirus measures during Easter holiday

Prague, April 8 (CTK) – Security measures will not be toughened during Easter, the current measures are adequate and the police will continue checking their observance in the streets, the Central Crisis Staff (UKS) head Jan Hamáček said after a UKS meeting today.

“We are convinced that the current measures are enough,” Hamáček, who is the Interior Minister and leader of the junior government Social Democrats (CSSD), said.

“I believe that people are and will be reasonable and will not let any potentially infected person in their homes,” Hamáček said.

“If I were at home, I simply would not answer the door because I would fear that someone could infect me,” he said.

Ahead of Easter, otherwise typical of massively-visited divine services and collective folk habits, the UKS discussed whether to permit meetings of small groups of people, but decided that this is not possible for now.

Within the package of anti-virus measures from March, only two people can appear in public places at the most, with family members being an exception.

Divine services will have to be celebrated at a distance. “This is unpleasant, but the risk is still considerable,” Hamáček said.

He recalled that some more shops, such as building material shops, hobby markets and bicycle repairers will reopen after a closure as of Thursday, but sanitary requirements will toughen in this connection.

The government will discuss a further softening of restrictions next week, he said.
