More than 30,000 employees of Czech carmaker Škoda Auto will receive a 65,000 crown spring bonus next month, Jaroslav Povšík, Chairman of the KOVO Trade Union at Škoda Auto, revealed last week.

“In April, employees will receive CZK 65,000 in addition to their wages,” Povšík told iDnes.cz.

Despite a fall in reported profits for the company in 2018, the first quarter bonus represents an increase over last year.

Škoda Auto gives their employees multiple bonuses throughout the year; in addition to a Christmas bonus, a fixed summer bonus paid out in two parts along with a spring bonus calculated based on the previous year’s profits.

Despite a 9% decrease in Škoda profits in 2018 versus 2017, the union was still able to negotiate an increase in the 2019 spring bonus.

“The bonus was higher despite a drop in Skoda’s profit due to the fact that last year we negotiated a higher base for its calculation,” stated Povšík.

Škoda Auto employees will receive the bonus along with their April wages in early May.

Given the average wages at Škoda Auto, the typical employee will receive more than 110,000 crowns in April.

Last year, the average monthly earnings at the company rose 14% to 46,357 crowns.

Earlier this year, Škoda Auto was voted as one of the top Czech companies to work for by recent graduates entering the workforce.
