The Czech streaming service Dramox, billed as a Netflix for theater, now offers recorded stage performances from 22 countries and world-renowned institutions, founders Martin Zavadil and Radim Horák told CTK this weekend.

Established last year with content primarily from Czech theaters, Dramox launches its second season with an expanded range of partners from around the globe.

Since launching last autumn, Dramox has expanded its video database five times. In less than one year, tens of thousands of subscribers have watched at least one play on the platform.

Altogether, viewers have spent hundreds of thousands of hours watching Dramox content and have raised millions crowns for the theaters that participate with the platform, the founders said.

Over the past year, Dramox offerings have expanded to include ballet, opera, and drama, and now include productions from the Theatre de la Ville in Paris and the Versailles Royal Opera.

Among other productions, viewers can now enjoy content from the English National Ballet, the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, Swan Lake performed by the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, and The Magic Flute performed at Germany’s largest opera house, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden.

Zavadil and Horák noted that comedies have been the most popular content on Dramox, followed by the titles that belong to school curriculum, while drama came third.

Dramox enters its second season with more than 200 recordings from 103 theaters from 22 countries. All plays are available through the website and supported apps for 299 crowns per month.

More than 50 percent of the money earned by Dramox goes back to the participating theaters.

The goal of the platform is to become a global portal for streaming theater online. Dramox aims to ensure that popular as well as smaller local performances from all over the world are accessible, and not only for Czech and Slovak audiences.

The founders also plan to present the best of Czech theater to foreign subscribers from around the world.
