Czech Tennis star Tomáš Berdych ends his career at age 34

Prague, Nov 13 (CTK) – Czech tennis player Tomas Berdych, 34, the 2010 Wimbledon finalist who was No 4 in the ranking in the past, will end his career as expected and is to announce this at the ATP Finals in London on Saturday, his father Martin Berdych told today’s issue of the Blesk tabloid.

“I think it will be a great end on Saturday,” Blesk quotes Martin Berdych who also said he and his wife would go to London to the farewell event.

It has been more or less clear since this year’s US Open that Berdych will end his professional career.

He said in New York then, after he was eliminated in the first round, that his continuation in 2020 would be very unrealistic.

Berdych suffers from chronic problems caused by a congenital defect of his left hip.

Yet he usually played without major complication during his career except for the past two years when he had health troubles related to the hip defect and often had to cancel his participation in tournaments.

Berdych won 13 ATP tournaments in singles and two in doubles and the Davis Cup twice, in 2012 and 2013.

He earned almost 30 million dollars in his tennis career.

This year, he played nine tournaments and 20 matches. He dropped to the 103rd position in the ranking, which was far from the 50th that might prolong his professional career.

Berdych is likely to stay in New York for some time because of his wife, model Ester Berdych Satorova.

“If you want to start your career there, you must really be there on a daily basis,” Berdych Satorova recently told Super.cz server as a jury member of My Model Contest finals in New York.
