Medellin, Colombia, Sept 26 (ČTK) - Police in the Colombian Antioquia province have announced the death of a 25-year-old female tourist from the Czech Republic. The incident is being investigated as a homicide.

"We can confirm the death of a Czech female national in Colombia. Local police are investigating the cause of death," said Mariana Wernerová, a spokesperson for the Czech Foreign Ministry

"The Czech authorities are in contact with the victim's family," she added.

It is thought the young woman was shot dead while returning to her hotel at night.

Her body was found near the municipality of Jardin, south of Medellin. The woman was staying there with a male British national, who some media say was her partner.

Local newspaper El Tiempo writes that the woman left a farm close to Jardin on Friday evening after quarrelling with her partner. She was then shot multiple times on her way back to her hotel.

It is believed the woman had been on holiday in Colombia for two weeks. The British man with whom she was staying did not suffer any injuries and is cooperating with local police.

The police have not yet commented on possible causes for the murder. The body has been sent for autopsy, and police are now interviewing people and checking the path which the Czech tourist was walking.
