Sosnová a village in the Česká Lípa district, is probably best known for it auto racing track the Autodrom Sosnová, but through the weekend local World of Warcraft enthusiasts put this village in the Liberec region on the map as the site of an epic mock battle.

So inventive are the costumes and so well-staged are the woodland manuevers that this year the world took note.

Multiple international media outlets picked up on the event including the UK Daily Mail which reports that the Czech Republic has always had a large World of Warcraft fan base with the 2015 European Championship being held in Prague.

The Sosnová match, Azeroth 2016, now in its fifth year, uses only imitation weapons. It is organized annually by a passionate group of fans of the multi-player online game, which is considered among the most popular in history.

Some 300 participants dress up and play as characters from the virtual reality game.

The final battle, which took place on Sunday, May 1, always determines the storyline for the following year’s outing. In the past more than 300 people have participated.
