Czech Wines Win Seven Gold Medals at Paris Competition

Czech and Moravian wines were awarded a total of 25 medals at the 2016 Vinalies Internationales Competition

The annual Vinalies® Internationales Competition, organized by the Union of French Oenologists and held in Paris, has celebrated the world’s finest wines since 1994. 

In 2016, 3600 wines from 41 different countries competed for bragging rights that included entry in the guide book 1000 Vins du mond (1000 Wines of the World).

25 Czech wines made the cut – all of them whites and rosés, and predominantly from Moravian vineyards. Seven Czech wines were certified with a gold medal, with 18 taking home a silver.

The gold-winning Czech wines:

  • Vinařství Krist Rulandské modré výběr z bobulí 2015 (rosé)
  • Vinselekt Michlovský Rizling vlašský 2009 (white)
  • Znovin Znojmo Tramín červený výběr z bobulí 2005 (white) 
  • Vinařství U Kapličky Rulandské modré pozdní sběr 2015 (rosé)
  • Bohemia Sekt Prestige brut Chardonnay 2013 (white) 
  • Vinařství Štěpánek Rulandské šedé výběr z hroznů 2015 (white) 
  • Horák Pozdní sběr 2015 (rosé)


French wines dominated the top prizes in each category, but the Horák rosé was a surprise winner: it was named the best rosé in the competition.
