Czech Republic reports 26 COVID-19 cases Sunday as number of current infections continues to decline

Prague, May 4 (CTK) – The Czech Republic saw 26 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, with the total number since the epidemic outbreak reaching 7,781; the death toll increased by four to 249 since Sunday evening, and the number of recoveries by eight to 3,587, according to the new data from the Czech Health Ministry.

On Sunday, eight more new cases were confirmed than on Saturday. Nevertheless, this number is still very low compared with the previous days and comparable with the daily increases in the first half of March.

A total of 3,667 samples were tested on Sunday, which is the lowest daily number in the past week.

The proportion of the positive testing samples to the overall number of tests was 0.71 percent on Sunday. This is more than Saturday’s 0.46 percent, but it exceeded 1 percent on the previous three days last week.

Out of the newly registered deaths of COVID-19 patients, two were reported on Sunday, which is the same number as on Saturday, and five patients died on Friday.

Out of the country’s 14 regions, the death toll has been the highest in Prague, where it has reached 87 so far, followed by Moravia-Silesia with 33, Karlovy Vary Region with 24 and Central Bohemia with 22 deaths.

The situation in this respect is the most favourable in the southeastern Zlin Region, where only one patient has died so far.

Prague also sees the highest number of COVID-19 cases, 1,754 since the early-March epidemic outbreak in the country.

The number of infection cases per 100,000 inhabitants is the highest, 129, in the westernmost Karlovy Vary Region, followed by Prague.

On Sunday, the number of those currently ill with COVID-19 dropped to 3,946. A total of 299 stayed with the disease in hospital, including 58 in a serious condition.

Almost 700 patients have been released from hospitals either as fully recovered or to home care.
