D1 highway from Prague to Brno remains closed after fiery fatal accident

Psare, Central Bohemia, Oct 13 (CTK) – Four car burnt down, one person burnt to death and two people suffered rather serious injuries in an accident on the D1 motorway from Prague to Brno this evening, spokespersons for the regional firefighters, police and rescuers have told CTK.

Eight people suffered light injuries in the motorway accident.

Five cars and a tank truck crashed on the 49th kilometre of the motorway. Firefighters, rescuers and police officers keep working on the scene of the accident, which occurred before 19:30 in the direction from Prague to Brno.

The truck overturned across both lines of the motorway and went ablaze.

Firefighters got the fire under control around 20:00 and half an hour later they completely liquidated it. Then they prevented oil from leaking from the tank truck.

The motorway is likely to be closed until early morning.

A policeman who diverted traffic on the 34th kilometre of the motorway suffered serious injuries when a car hit him. He was helicoptered to a Prague hospital.
