Right winger David Pastrňák, who plays for the Boston Bruins in the NHL, has won the Golden Hockey Stick awarded to the best Czech ice hockey player over the past season for a record fifth time in a row.

At just 25 years of age, Pastrňák has become the first Czech hockey player to win five consecutive Golden Hockey Sticks.

Ondřej Palát, who won a Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning, and David Krejčí, who also plays for Boston, finished second and third behind Pastrňák in 2021 Golden Hockey Stick voting.

In the history of the Golden Hockey Sticks, legendary forward Jaromír Jágr, has been the most frequent recipient, winning a total of 12 times. However, Jágr never won it in five straight years as Pastrňák has now done.

At 49 years old, Jágr is still playing professional ice hockey for the Kladno Knights, a team that he also owns, in the 1st Czech Republic Hockey League.

After Jágr, Pastrňák is now tied with goaltender Dominik Hašek, 56, as the most honored Czech hockey player with five Golden Hockey Stick awards each.

Those who vote in the Golden Hockey Stick awards include representatives of the Czech Ice Hockey Association, coaches of the national team, members of the Czech Elite League teams, and sports journalists.
