Ed Sheeran's July 7 concert was among Prague’s biggest ever, with an encore tonight

The English singer-songwriter was greeted by the biggest concert crowd that Prague has seen in the last 15 years yesterday during the first of two concerts held at the Letňany Airport grounds.

The estimated 80,000 concertgoers tops the previous record for Letňany Airport, which was 60,000 attendees for a performance by AC/DC in 2016. It also vaults Sheeran into ranks of Prague’s most-attended concerts ever.

The Rolling Stones drew nearly 127,000 people to Strahov Stadium in 1995, while Michael Jackson pulled 125,000 to Letná Park in 1996. A similar amount of attendees reportedly saw Pink Floyd at Strahov Stadium in 1994, though the exact number is unconfirmed.

Those are the only ticketed Prague concerts to top 100,000 people, however; Sheeran’s 80,000 puts him in the neighborhood of concerts by U2 (1997), Elán (2003), Kabát (2014), and four other performances by the Stones (1990, 1998, 2003, and 2018).

The Prague performances by the Rolling Stones and Michael Jackson in the mid-90s, by the way, rank among the world’s top 15 highest-attended ticketed concerts for a single artist in history, coming in at #11 and #13, respectively.

If you missed Sheeran’s concert last night, he’ll be performing at Letňany Airport again tonight (July 8) for his second and final Prague performance; after the July 7 concert sold out within hours of pre-sale, organizers quickly added another date.

Prague Police will close the roads surrounding Letňany Airport from 18:00, and dispatch additional forces to the area to ensure security measures. Concertgoers are advised to take the metro (Line C), which will run at increased intervals, to and from the concert venue.

According to Forbes, Sheeran is the world’s third-highest paid musician, with an estimated $110 million in 2018 earnings that ranks him just behind U2 ($118 million) and Coldplay ($112.5 million).

During the Prague concert yesterday, Sheeran premiered his newest single, BLOW; on Monday morning, the artist released the official video for the new single, which also features Chris Stapleton & Bruno Mars, on YouTube:

On July 12, just after his Prague tour dates, Sheeran will release a hotly-anticipated new album entitled No.6 Collaborations Project, which also features collaborations with Justin Bieber and Chance the Rapper.
