Get Rid of Your Tree — Tree disposal in Prague runs through February. According to Prague Waste Services, Christmas trees don’t belong in mixed-waste containers but next to the bins where a dedicated vehicle will pick it up. Some 300,000 Christmas trees are picked up by the city annually.
Donate Unwanted Gifts — Give your ugly sweater to someone who needs it; see this article for ideas or the Red Cross map of textile bins in Prague.
Cook a Czech Winter Meal — Žemlovka, goulash, potato pancakes, soup; if you haven’t mastered these Czech winter foods, there’s no better time to try!

Take Advantage of Winter Sales — Massive sales on everything from clothes to cars begin just after Christmas and continue through January both online and in store. Look for discounts of up to 70 percent off especially on clothes and winter sports equipment. Here’s a helpful chart for what to shop for and when.
Pay Your Property Taxes — If you bought or were given any real estate last year make sure to file your property taxes by January 31.
Be Prepared for Pricier Post — As of this month, prices for sending correspondence abroad have gone up (5 CZK for letters, 20 CZK for packages).

Celebrate an Ancient Festival — Czech epiphany or Three Kings celebrations takes place January 5-6. Read more about the tradition and 2018 parade here.
Get Political — While foreigners can’t vote they can at the very least follow the Czech presidential elections, taking place on January 12-13.
See an Old-Fashioned Pig Slaughter— The National Museum in Letna hosts its annual zabijačka on January 27, kicking off the masopust season.
Hit the Slopes! — Get a 23-resort Skipass (which includes Monínec, the closest slope to Prague) and spend your weekends like a Czech.
