Wolt, one of Europe’s largest food delivery companies enters the Czech market on Friday, July 20, 2018. It will offer an app, close to 50 restaurants, and, according to a company spokesperson, great customer service.

Initially, Wolt will offer its services in the center of Prague, in Vinohrady, Letná, Holešovice, and Karlín districts, but also in parts of Žižkov and Smíchov.

Prague marks Wolt’s first city in the Czech Republic. Users can place an order in as little as 10 seconds and have the food delivered either to their homes, pick it up at a specific restaurant for takeaway, or order straight to the table.

Wolt is available on the web and as a mobile app, for which the company received the Apple Editors’ Choice award. For instance, users can track the location of the couriers in the app during delivery.

“For me, Prague is the logical next step when it comes to the expansion of Wolt. Progressive and aspiring people, very diverse and growing restaurant,” says Marianne Vikkula, the Expansion Lead at Wolt, which now has more than 900,000 registered users, and operates in 25+ cities across Europe.

“We will be offering an easy way of ordering the tastiest food in town, directly to people’s doorsteps. An award-winning app, rich selection of the most popular restaurants, delivery in approximately half an hour, and local customer support answering at a snap of a finger. We believe this is a strong cocktail the people of Prague look forward to getting used to, especially in this industry,” adds David Kratky, Wolt Czech Republic’s Marketing Manager.

In the first phase, customers will be able to order from close to 50 restaurants, including Dish, Wokin, Salt’n’Pepa Kitchen, Burrito Loco, Casa de Carli, Forky’s, artic Bakehouse, and Modrý Zub.

Petr Misek, the CEO of Banh-Mi-Ba, the famous Vietnamese chain, notes: “We perceive Wolt as a breath of fresh wind in the Czech food delivery market. A modern user interface and an emphasis on quality products are what we have been missing here.”

Wolt will deliver with bicycles, scooters, and cars. The delivery will take 30 minutes on average, including the food preparation time. Meals are delivered in preheated bags keeping them warm. The delivery fee starts from CZK 49.

While food delivery was all but a foreign concept in the Czech Republic a decade ago, the business has been booming in recent years, with services like Dáme jídlo taking hundreds of thousands of orders a month. Uber Eats is reportedly due to launch this year and KFC launched food delivery in Prague in 2016.
