It’s long been an overgrown parking lot and haven for Prague 8’s junkies and homeless population.

But soon, it might become the new Náplavka.

The Negrelli viaduct, a few blocks from the Florenc metro station, is set to undergo a transformation that hopes to bring some life into what has long been one of Karlín’s less-desirable areas.

In between Křižíkova and Sokolovská streets, the area underneath the train tracks will see the parking lot vanish and the installation of new recreational facilities in its place, reports iDnes.cz.

What can we expect?

Artist visualizations depict an art gallery, a café, and a club in the arches of the viaduct, a beach volleyball court by their side, and an area with tables and chairs for pedestrians to relax or play a game of chess.

According to iDnes, a summer cinema, space for dancing, yoga, and aerobics, and facilities with sports equipment are also in the works.

The Negrelli Viaduct renovation is a project of the Centre for Central European Architecture (CCEA).

The transformation won’t be permanent, however: the new complex plans to operate only from June until October.
