The new route will run from May 8 to October 24, with five flights per week. It’s estimated to service nearly 50,000 passengers next year.
Tickets will be available for purchase on the new route from August 12.
“Chicago is one of the top 5 destinations across North America with a strong local market in terms of overall potential in the US,” Prague Airport Chairman Václav Řehoř told local media.
“Chicago Airport is one of the main transfer points and will offer passengers a number of other connecting flights.”
Historically, Chicago is also one of the US cities with the largest population of Czech immigrants; 1930s Mayor Anton Cermak was born in Kladno.
Flying the Prague-Chicago route for American Airlines will be a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which Václav Havel Airport touts as one of the most modern of contemporary aircrafts.
A direct flight from Prague to Bangkok, in addition to other Asian routes, was also supposed to come to fruition by the end of 2019, but no word yet on that service.
