The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute has issued heat warnings for areas across the Czech Republic, in effect for most regions on Thursday and Friday, June 23-24.

In Prague, a warning of “high temperatures” will be in effect from 12:00 – 20:00 on Thursday, and from 11:00 – 21:00 on Friday.

Temperatures on Thursday are expected to reach a high of 30-34 °C. On Friday, those temperatures are forecasted to be in the 32-36 °C range.

The highest temperatures are expected in Brno and South Moravia, however, which face a warning of “very high temperatures.”

The highest temperature of the year was registered today at Brno’s Žabovřesky station, coming in at 38.2 °C.

The Institute has also advised against staying in the sun too long through the rest of the week due to an elevated risk of sunburn.

“From today until the end of the week, we recommend caution when you stay in the sun, especially at midday and early afternoon,” the CHMI warned on their Facebook page.

“The quantity of ozone is extremely low and vice versa UV intensity is extremely high.”
