In the upcoming movie musical The Greatest Showman on Earth, Hugh Jackman stars as American hoaxster and showman P.T. Barnum, who toured the world with his circus sideshow and is credited with the phrase “There’s a sucker born every minute.”
A rare musical made for multiplexes, Showman co-stars Zac Efron in an unspecified role and is directed by Michael Gracey from a script IMDb credits to Michael Arndt, Jenny Bicks, and Bill Condon.
At least partial shooting in Prague might make sense: Barnum routinely toured Europe with his sideshow in the mid-1800s, and the well-preserved Czech capital routinely fills in for period-era European locales.
According to a casting notice on Backstage.com, producers are currently looking for three roles: General Tom Thumb, the “Tallest Man on Earth,” and the “Heaviest Man on Earth.”
The Greatest Showman on Earth co-stars Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya.
Director Gracey is also attached to direct a film adaptation of Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone, which coincidentally happens to be set in Prague.
The film is currently slated for a release date on December 25, 2017.
