Traditionally celebrated on June 1, a series of family-friendly events began this weekend and runs through this weekend.

International Children’s Day is celebrated on June 1 in much of Central and Eastern Europe, including the Czech Republic. The chosen date has its roots in the World Conference for the Well-being of Children, which met on June 1, 1925, in Geneva, Switzerland. The entire Czech Republic celebrates the holiday, while in Prague events connected to it start this weekend. Here's a mix of charitable and entertaining activities, many combining food and drink with hands-on fun.

May 27 Children's Day at Letná Water Tower

Vodárenská věž Letná will be organizing an afternoon of brain teasers and other exciting stations with various challenges. A bouncy castle and other playful activities will add to the festive atmosphere. May 27 Children’s Day in Zbraslav

Zbraslav Market, Mini Market, and the Czech Food Truck Association have organized a family foodie event in the Prague suburb of Zbraslav. Theater performances, face painting, workshops, and competitions for children in the nearby children's park are on the lineup in addition to delicious food and drink. Admission is free. MAY 28 Children's Day at Karlín Market

Kids can embark on exciting experiments and uncover mysterious wonders at various stations set up around the market. Count on a bouncy castle, trampolines, fairy tales, creative workshops, face painting, a skilled balloon magician, and a volunteer firefighters demonstration. Facebook event

PARTNER TIP Hamleys Prague invites you to Super Children's Day on Thursday, June 1, 2023 starting at 12 p.m. Be astonished by cosplay, as superheroes come alive, compete in a photo contest, and get a chance to win tickets for the premiere of DC's new film, Flash, or collectible figures from Iron Studios. May 28 Children's Day at Žluté lázně

Prague’s “yellow spa” opens its children's corner for the summer season with performances by Bára Ladrová and friends, a fairy tale trail full of surprises, a sports zone for athletes large and small, face painting, amusement-park rides, and food stalls. Admission is free. Facebook event

June 1 Childrens Day at Holešovická tržnice

Now in its second year, this family event in Hall 13 invites visitors to dive into games, workshops, creative and physical activities, a PokéTour, a concert by BomBarďák, and plenty of good food from churros to Belgian fries. Playrooms, art studios, workshops, and performances take place throughout the day, catering to kids ages 5-14. Facebook event

June 1 Childrens Day at Jiřího z Poděbrad Square

In collaboration with the project Dortem proti rakovině (Cakes Against Cancer), Trhy na Jiřáku has planned a cake decoration workshop for kids at the market. Proceeds from cake purchases go to support this worthy project. Facebook event

JUNE 1 Kunsthalle Prague Free Entry for Children's Day

Kunsthalle is offering free entry to the gallery throughout the day with activities ranging from architecture tours for children, a pop-up workshop in the ArtLab from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and the chance to explore the current exhibition Bohemia: History of an Idea, 1950-2000. June 1 Náplavka Children’s Day

Prague districts 2 and 5 team up at Smíchovská Náplavka for creative workshops led by DDM and H2Ospodar, entertaining bubble activities, an obstacle course, face painting, a knot-tying workshop, fairy tale screenings in Kobka 17 with Aeroškola, and a showcase of State Navigation Authority's boat, and demonstration rides of motorboats by TJ Tatran. JUNE 1 Ice cream station at Myšák

Celebrate Children's Day at Myšák pastry shop with an ice cream station. Head pastry chef, Lukáš Pohl, will prepare homemade ice cream for the occasion while nuts, chocolate, pistachios, and other toppings are set up for kids to dig in. June 2 Khamoro Festival Children’s Day

Prague's Portheimka Park will once again host Children's Day as part of the Khamoro festival program, immersing parents and children in diverse music and dance workshops, performances by children's Romani folklore ensembles, street dancers, and talented Romani music bands. Children can transform into fairytale characters through face painting or create their unique mug. A bouncy castle and a photo booth round out the entertainment. Facebook event

June 3 Children's Day at Zrno Zrnko bakery

A fun-filled Children's Day awaits at Nusle with a Children’s Day event organized by bakery Zrno zrnko. Chain-swing rides (for CZK 20), face painting, Yedoo scooters, soft-serve ice cream, and hot dogs take center stage for some old-fashioned fun. Facebook event
