Holiday shipping deadlines in Czechia: Essential dates and help for last-minute shoppers

With pick-up points shrinking holding times due to record demand, here's how to beat the holiday rush when ordering gifts.

Major carriers in Czechia, including Česká pošta, DPD, PPL, Zásilkovna, and GLS, have announced their deadlines for guaranteed delivery by Dec. 24—most falling on Dec. 19 or 20. With demand surging and storage times at pick-up points shrinking to as little as 24 hours, you might not get your preferred delivery box, especially in busy areas. To beat the holiday rush, keep an eye on e-shop processing times and take advantage of self-service boxes, many of which are open 24/7. See our round up of key deadlines and dates to know:

Carrier deadlines and services

Česká Pošta and Balíkovna

  • Deadline for guaranteed delivery: Dec. 19. (shipments address and to pick-up points).
  • Delivery date: Dec. 23
  • Self-service boxes: Available 24/7, including December 24.

Česká pošta emphasizes the importance of monitoring e-shop deadlines for order processing. Customers are encouraged to avoid last-minute shopping. The carrier offers delivery to 7,000 branches and 2,900 boxes. If delivery points are full, packages may be redirected to nearby locations.

DPD

  • Deadline for guaranteed delivery: Friday, Dec. 20.
  • Delivery date: Monday, Dec. 23.
  • Self-service boxes: Available 24/7, including Dec. 24.

DPD has expanded its network by partnering with Česká pošta, adding 850 new delivery points. Customers are encouraged to use DPD Pickup Boxes, which are accessible around the clock. Couriers will deliver packages until Dec. 23.

PPL

  • Deadline for guaranteed delivery: Friday, Dec. 20
  • Delivery date: Monday, Dec. 23
  • Self-service boxes: Available 24/7, including Dec. 24

PPL advises customers to order early, as delivery depends on when e-shops hand over packages. The company has 6,700 delivery points and 1,200 self-service boxes. Customers can track shipments via the mojePPL app, which also offers a loyalty program.

Zásilkovna

  • Regular Zásilkovna branches: Wednesday, Dec 18
  • Collection depots: Thursday, Dec. 19 (not guaranteed)
  • Delivery date: Monday, Dec. 23
  • Self-service boxes: Available 24/7, including Dec. 24

Zásilkovna recommends last-minute shoppers use depots open until noon on Christmas Eve. With over 5,700 delivery points and 4,800 Z-BOXes, the company is prepared for increased holiday demand. Additional staff have been hired to handle the holiday rush.

  • GLS: E-shops must hand over by Thursday, Dec. 19 for guaranteed Christmas delivery. Pick-up points or boxes: Deadline extended to Friday, Dec. 20.
  • Alza: Goods in stock can be ordered for delivery by Christmas up to and including Sunday, Dec. 22 . This applies to AlzaBoxes and branch networks.

Pick-up times shortened for holidays

Storage times at parcel boxes and pick-up points are shorter this season due to high demand. For AlzaBoxes, packages will be available for 1-2 days, adjusted dynamically based on capacity. Packages will be stored at PPL Parcelboxes for 72 hours, while third-party boxes allow just 48 hours. Zásilkovna Z-Boxes: Two calendar days with a possible 1-day extension. However, One by Allegro delivery boxes, still maintains its 48 hours from delivery pick-up policy; Balíkovna also has the same time for pickup.
