Open Arts, a theatre ensemble from Cyprus, presents “κaragiozis εxposed” at the Prague Fringe Festival, a contemporary take on Greek Shadow Puppet tradition.
An innovative craftsman experiments with his traditional tools, stretching them to extremes. He reaches a breaking point when Karagiozis, his protagonist puppet, revolts against him and escapes from behind the screen.
In front of a staring audience, the puppeteer fights to keep Karagiozis under control to ensure his show goes on. But, the newly independent Karagiozis is unmanageable and fervently explores his new found human dimension. With their relationship at stake they are forced to come face-to-face with the collapse of everything they have taken for granted up to this point.
Through modern physical theatre technique, experimental architecture, live original music and using the core of Shadow Puppet theatre, our performance explores the crossing of boundaries and coming to term with a new dimension.
“The dialogues are clever, the idea authentic and at long last we can speak of an outstanding performance… ingenious, both as conception and as content…The team work is evident in the whole performance.”
