Ever spend hours flicking through Netflix or HBO searching for something to watch online? Well, four Brno students might have figured out the answer to this seemingly never-ending saga.

The team has produced an application that advises users which movies to watch, what podcasts to listen to, or which computer game to play based on their preferences and viewing, reading or listening habits.

The Discyo app was the winner of the BUT Student Entrepreneurship Award, an award from the Brno University of Technology.

Student Petr Buchal told the University website:

"Discyo provides information across various media. If, for example, someone liked the film Iron Man, the application may recommend a podcast with its main actor."

The app isn’t tied to a streaming service so will recommend media across platforms, according to their preferences.

"Until now, the app was only available to the top ten users who helped us with testing and feedback. In January, Discyo will be available for free download for everyone on Google Play and the Apple App Store. It will give users tips on movies, series or interesting audio podcasts,” Buchal continued.

They plan to expand the software to include books and computer games.

The app will be available in English and after downloading it, users can enter what content they like recently, to allow the app to give suggestions.

Discyo may also be connected to Facebook or Spotify in the future, where it will be able to download data on current preferences and offer a more customized experience.

The students took part in the university program “Come in Entrepreneurship!” where over CZK 400,000 was given out to a number of ideas, with the Discyo app receiving CZK 130,000 to help the business start-up.
