Modern dentistry – treating without drills!

Suffering while dentists drill holes in your teeth is quite unnecessary these days. There are now treatment options that cure teeth without the dreaded drill. The most interesting are ozone and laser technologies. Today a laser can be used for practically anything.

So, what are the client´s questions and comments?

I don´t believe that drills are no longer necessary!
Well, you should, because technology has advanced so much that teeth can be treated with ozone or laser. It is economical, painless, and requires a fraction of the time you would normally spend at your dentist´s.

How is it done? Does it involve some form of laser screening?
To make a thorough diagnosis, classical metal probes are no longer sufficient. At the modern clinics a diagnostic laser is used for regular check-ups. This determines the treatment options. A glass sensor is placed on the tooth and the laser scan reveals the condition of the tooth.
What then?

If the laser detects demineralization or the beginning of decay, the tooth can be treated without drilling. However, it is important to discover it in the early stages. Ozone treatment is painless and non-invasive. It basically means treatment by sterilization. The whole process lasts only about forty seconds. No drills, no unpleasant sounds, no pain!

But what if decay has already set in?
That makes no difference. We still don´t have to use the drill. We use the Key erbium laser to treat advanced decay. This is a specially developed laser that has unique feedback. Unlike a  standard drill, the laser acts like fire on ice. No chipping, no vibrations, no sounds, no pain! The laser removes only the affected part of the tooth, unlike the drill, which sometimes removes more. Throughout the process the feedback monitors the extent of the decay. The laser also has the  advantage that it eliminates the decay forming bacteria. This ensures that the decay doesn´t continue under the filling.

What else are lasers used for?
Lasers can treat periodontal disease. We are one of the few dental clinics in Central Europe to use lasers for dental hygiene. The laser also helps treat sensitive teeth, mouth ulcers, cold sores and can be used to remove cysts and frenula. With the laser, treatment of root canals can be carried out in one visit.

Is ozone used for anything else?
Ozone is ideal for preventive care in children and adults. For children ozone can be used in conjunction with sealants for the prevention of decay. Ozone can also be used to treat mouth ulcers, cold sores, sensitive teeth and for sterilization during root canal therapy. Everything is painless and highly effective.

What else is new in dentistry?
A great deal! For example screening for oral cancer using the unique VelScope lamp. Implants that can immediately restore an esthetic smile. Invisible braces. Quick and effective teeth whitening methods.
