The situation in the new car market is dire. After production disruptions due to the Covid pandemic and the shortage of computer chips, the war in Ukraine has now made production almost impossible for suppliers to the automotive sector. Wait times for new cars are now up to a year or even a year and a half.

The used car market isn’t any better. Used car prices have also gone through the roof and supply has fallen dramatically compared to the pre-Covid period.

For those who need the convenience and mobility that a car provides but cannot afford to wait, short and medium-term car rentals offer an easier alternative that's especially suitable for people who spend only a limited time in the Czech Republic or don't want to be tied to a long-term loan or lease.

In the Czech Republic and Slovakia, the leading provider of medium-term car rental is the local company Mototechna Drive.

"We currently have over 100 cars from fifteen brands on offer,” says Mototechna Drive director Jan Hrubý. “We offer a wide range of vehicles for both the ordinary user and the luxury sports car enthusiast. The cars are in stock and ready for immediate delivery."

There are currently another 900 cars from Mototechna Drive on the road. In total, the company has now rented out over 4,500 vehicles, including luxury models like the Mercedes Benz G63 AMG, Audi RS Q8, BMW M3 competition, BMW X5 M50i, BMW M760li, Audi SQ7, and many more.

The standard rental period for a car from Mototechna Drive is 6 months with an option to extend up to one year. After that, the customers move to a new car of their choice. This gives customers the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a different car every six months or try out a different model or brand.

In winter, renters can take advantage of the benefits of an SUV, while in the summer they can enjoy the adrenaline rush of a sports coupe. The lease price includes a mileage limit of 30,000 km per year, but higher mileages can be negotiated individually.

"Rental prices vary according to make and model. We offer small cars such as the Peugeot 208 with a monthly payment excluding VAT of around CZK 7,000 per month, but you can also rent a luxury car from one of the big three German brands – BMW, Mercedes or AUDI – for prices starting from CZK 15,000 per month. We are able to complete the whole process within one hour of receiving a request," Hrubý explains.

The price of the monthly rental always includes the accompanying services and fees directly related to the operation of the vehicle. This means renters don’t have to deal with insurance, highway vignettes, fees, or paying for seasonal tires or servicing the car.

"Our motto is: You drive and we take care of the rest,” Hrubý stresses. “Our goal is to provide the best driving experience for every customer."

Anyone interested in renting a car can select a suitable vehicle at www.mototechnadrive.cz, or contact a Mototechna Drive representative directly to discuss their needs and preferences. The customer's creditworthiness is then assessed and the rental is approved.

"We only need to see a few documents to assess the customer's creditworthiness. Businesses and sole traders provide proof of their finances for the last full tax year. Individuals only need a certificate of employment and income. They can then can pick up the car in Prague, Brno or Bratislava," Hrubý concludes.
