New Potluck Experience Merges Food with Art in Prague

At each event, guests bring home-cooked dishes to share and the feast is followed by a slideshow of 20-25 local and international artists, ranging from emerging to very established. 

The movement will have its first outing in Prague on November 10. Organizer Polina Shubkina, a multimedia artist and editor of the Urbanautica magazine says:

‘‘A few years ago I participated in the first edition of Slideluck Hong Kong; it was a very fun and positive experience. Slideluck is all about sharing your work in a non-competitive atmosphere; I especially enjoy the idea that the submissions are open for both established and emerging artists.”

In 2010, Slideluck broke the Guinness World Record for the Largest Potluck Dinner on Earth at Slideluck Potshow XV in Dumbo, Brooklyn, with over a thousand participants and 479 individual dishes. 

The event’s aim in the Czech Republic is to create an interest in the local art scene among those who don’t usually attend gallery openings. The event will be hosted in both Czech and English. 

‘‘It could be interesting even for people who speak neither of them, the language of photography is universal,” says Shubkina.

Some of the local and international photographers whose work will appear are Libuse Jarcovjakova, Imrich Veber, and Preston Rescigno, among others. 

Co-organizer Liza Nechaeva, a Prague-based entrepreneur and founder of Orfay youth organization, says of the inaugural Prague event: “I believe that cultural development of cities is one of the keystones for community development and creating a comfortable life environment.”
