Though a number of Czechs believe May weddings are bad luck, come June the season for saying “ano” is in full swing.

While Prague has been a wedding destination for many years, with an entire industry springing up around tying the knot in the Czech lands, many couples are trading in royal-wedding pomp for more down-to-earth ceremonies, according to Patricie Dlouha, events planner for Panský Dvůr, a historic chateau complex in Prague.

“These days more and more people want something a little boho but with a contemporary feel,” says Dlouha who organizes weddings in the chateau’s park, on the banks of the Počernický pond.

“We do weddings underneath a 100-year-old maple tree near our rural pond,” she says. “You get that romantic countryside wedding atmosphere even though you’re still in Prague,” she adds.

The city of Dolní Počernice where the chateau is located is definitely worth a trip whether you plan to walk down the aisle anytime soon or not.

The village, with its triangular square lined with reconstructed farmhouses, dates to the 14th century, though its oldest preserved monument is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, built around 1200.

The chateau park and Počernický pond form a unique complex of natural monuments beloved by cyclists and fans of the leisurely stroll. A gastronomic complex comprised of a set of restored historic buildings lining the northern end of the park is another draw.

“While we do host a lot of weddings,” says Dlouha, “many people come from Prague to do team buildings, private events, or simply enjoy a scenic walk on the grounds and a good meal.”

The Panský Dvůr restaurant complex includes Al Mulino, serving brick-oven pizza and Mediterranean fare and the Počernický Brewery specializing in Czech cuisine.

Keeping in step with casual-chic weddings of the moment, one popular summer wedding menu includes Czech classics on the grill for wedding parties from 60 up to 100 or more who stay to dance the night away in wooden-floored tents.

On-the-premises pension and spa U Hastrmana, offering lodging as well as beer baths and massage can both accommodate wedding guests or overnighters.

“We offer complete catering from Al Mulino for weddings or corporate team-building events. We can also accommodate guests in the beautiful rooms of the pension U Hastrmana, which has a variety of spa treatments — we really are a full-service wedding destination.”

Not only does the multi-function complex attract wedding parties, but its Počernický Brewery, with a 120-seat summer terrace featuring a bar, grill, and smokehouse, is the perfect setting for engagement parties, rehearsal dinners, stag and hen parties, or just a fun night with a large group of friends.

“Our unique packages range from beer-tapping school, beer tasting with a bottomless keg, to billiards and cigar or chocolate tastings, or a 1930s-style swing party,” says Dlouha.

Connecting its visitors to the history of Dolní Počernice and Czech culture is also an important part of the Panský Dvůr experience; look no further than its Léta Páně restaurant. Connected to the brewery and housed in the old village hall its oak floors, original furniture, and rustic ceiling beams, make it an entirely authentic venue for Panský Dvůr’s festive folklore nights.

“It’s such a flexible venue and we can accommodate any number of requests. Our work is done professionally and with love. We want to make your day unforgettable,” says Dlouha.
