Prague Castle to Host Open Day on Saturday, October 6

At Prague Castle on October 6, visitors can enter spaces normally not open to the public, such as Rothmayer Hall, which will contain a special exhibit featuring Czech orders, including the country’s highest honor, the Order of the White Lion.

Created to honor foreign dignitaries, the Order of the White Lion was most recently awarded to UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Nicholas George Winton for his heroic acts of saving Jewish Czechoslovak children during WWII.

Guests will also be able to see foreign honors bestowed upon the current Czech President, Miloš Zeman.

Visitors will also be able to enter the Brožík Drawing Room, the location where foreign ambassadors present themselves to the Czech President. Here, guests can see artwork on loan from Prague City Gallery along with a portrait of Brožík’s wife.

In the Rudolph Gallery, a special exhibition featuring 15 unique crystal Moser vases created this year to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the foundation of Czechoslovakia will be presented.

Throughout all the rooms accessible during Saturday’s Open Day, flowers from Prague Castle’s gardens and greenhouses will be on display.

If you haven’t been to Prague Castle recently, this month is an excellent opportunity. Also on display at Prague Castle through the end of October is a special exhibit commemorating the 100th anniversary of the foundation of Czechoslovakia featuring rare historical documents and photos.

Entrance to the Prague Castle Open Day on Saturday is free. Visitors will be admitted to the open rooms from 9:00 – 16:30.

Entrance to the special rooms open only on October 6 can be found at Mattias Gate, accessible via Hradčanské náměstí and the first Castle courtyard.
