Euromonitor International has released its annual Top 100 City Destinations Ranking which covers 100 of the world’s leading cities in terms of international tourist arrivals.

The report (available in full here) provides the context behind the numbers, explaining “why Japanese cities were the big winners in 2015, how Middle Eastern and Western European cities dealt with the turbulence surrounding them, and how Rio de Janeiro performed in a year without a mega-event to host.”

Prague just missed the top 20, but at number 22, still holds an impressive spot on the list as an important world destination. It saw a reported growth of 7.5% between the years 2014-2015 with arrivals increasing from 6,483 to 6,967.

In terms of number of incoming arrivals to European cities, Prague ranked in the top five, but in the area of inbound arrivals growth did not necessarily register as high as cities like Athens, Rome, and Madrid.

The top 5 destinations in the world were dominated by Asian cities: Hong Kong was the first in the world in terms of tourist arrivals followed by Bangkok, London, Singapore, and Paris.

London is the top-ranked city in Europe (ranked third globally), with international arrivals growing just short of 7% in 2015, boosted by England’s hosting of the Rugby World Cup in September 2015.
