The municipality of Prague 2 recently presented plans to revitalize the ever-popular Dragon Playground (Dětské hřiště U Draka) at Riegrovy sady, and they include a striking new centerpiece to replace the existing dragon-themed play area.

The Dragon Playground in Riegrovy Sady was last renovated in 2009, and its play elements are gradually deteriorating. Prague 2 has decided to modernize it, selecting a project contractor that meets the main objective: to replace aging play elements and refurbish the playground to cater to children of all ages, from toddlers to teenagers.

The original sandbox and carousel will be renovated, as well as the centerpiece – a large dragon-shaped play structure, which will look completely different after reconstruction. The new play elements will be multifunctional, safer, easier to maintain, and will encourage children to engage in different physical activities.

The project also includes renovating the existing cottage area, modifying the lower part of the playground on a slope, repairing the fence, replacing the inadequate entrance gate, irrigation system, and, of course, landscaping. Construction is expected to begin early next year.

A neighborhood meeting, attended by local representatives, designers, and landscapers at Riegrovy Sady, included a video projection showcasing the future appearance of one of the most-visited playgrounds in Prague. Members of the public were asked for their input ahead of the planned renovations.

"I appreciate that the residents of our district make use of the Dragon Playground in Riegrovy Sady, which will soon undergo a well-deserved reconstruction," Jan Recman, Deputy Mayor of Prague 2, told attendees at last month's meeting.

"The opinions and feedback of our neighbors are crucial to us, as the playground should primarily serve the needs of their families. I am therefore very pleased that we organized a neighborhood meeting, where we could discuss the final form of the playground together with architects and landscapers."

"The direct input of residents living near the playground into the planning process is indispensable for us. Together, we can ensure that the playground becomes the best possible place for play and relaxation for our children."
