Prague police now investigating sale of Adolf Hitler masks in city center

Prague, Nov 1 (CTK) – The police are dealing with possible unlawful conduct linked to the sale of Adolf Hitler rubber masks in Prague, pointed out by German Ambassador Christoph Israng on Twitter, Prague police spokeswoman Eva Kropacova told CTK today.

“I confirm that we are dealing with the case of the masks being sold in the center of Prague. At the moment, we are assessing whether an unlawful act was committed,” Kropacova said.

“The Czechs suffered so much under the Nazi regime, why is such trash being sold in the center of Prague now?” Israng said, attaching a photo of one of the stands where the mask is being sold.

Interior Minister Jan Hamacek (Social Democrats, CSSD) reacted to Israng’s post, saying that the police are dealing with the situation already.

Earlier, the selling of the masks was pointed out by reporter Janek Rubeš.

“At least on the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Adolf Hitler masks should not be sold in the center of Prague. I think I mind them more than the Matryoshka dolls,” Rubeš wrote on Twitter in January.

The police dealt with the sale of products bearing the likeness of Hitler before and arrived at the conclusion that the selling of these items is not unlawful.

T-shirts and mugs with portraits of Hitler or of Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin are sold, for example, by the Nase Vojsko (Our Army) publishing house.
